We were honoured to receive an invitation from Marine Parade GRC to perform during its annual National Day celebration dinner. On 12 August 2023 , our 17-member ukulele ensemble took to the stage at Roland Restaurant for a memorable evening filled with National Day song favorites and also timeless melodies.
We warmed up the stage with the beloved NDP song, 'It's the Little Things'. This was followed by a nostalgic medley of oldies, including "Beautiful Sunday" and "甜密密," which the audience connected with. Kudos to also a great performance by our youngest member, 13-year-old Ashley. Her graceful and confident entrance from the floor to the stage was really quite impressive for someone her age!
As we bid farewell with our finale item consisting of a medley of Malay folk songs, the audience joined in spontaneous dancing and singing along. We left the stage with resounding applause from the audience.
While we waited for our bus to take us back from the event, we were pleasantly surprised by a heartfelt compliment from a grassroots member: "Hey Ukulele group, you all are wonderful! Thank you for your great performance tonight!"
Our hearts were filled with a deep sense of pride and fulfilment. The evening's performances reminded us of the incredible power of music to unite and uplift communities.
