Embracing Unity at the National Day Istana Open House

Connecting with fellow Singaporeans and promoting unity in our community

On 23 July 2023, Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist Association (NSBA) proudly participated in the National Day Istana Open House (IOH) to celebrate Singapore's 58th birthday. The IOH was conducted as part of the president’s challenge, which was first initiated by former President SR Nathan in 2000. The challenge is an annual campaign that represents the coming together of people from all walks of life to help the less fortunate.

NSBA's booth was a vibrant and welcoming space, offering delightful activities for children and adults alike. A Merlion activity booklet designed by our very own NSBA youths featured information on the Singapura story, Merlion stickers, and information for children to learn more about our national icon.

NSBA's booth also featured a merchandise stand selling Merlion themed merchandise such as porcelain plates, sauce dishes, and tea towels designed by renowned Singapore design and lifestyle goods brand, Supermama. These souvenirs were a popular item, and all proceeds went to benefit the President's Challenge, a national fundraising campaign that supports social service organizations.

The IOH received a total of 22,500 visitors, with visitors of all ages enjoying the games, arts and crafts, and cultural performances put up by various organisations alongside NSBA. The IOH was a great opportunity for NSBA to connect with fellow Singaporeans and promote unity in our community. Visitors from all walks of life came together to enjoy the festivities, and NSBA was proud to be a part of it.

We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the IOH and to contribute to the community. The event was a great success, and we look forward to participating in future IOHs to come!
