Growing Together through Different Seasons

Supporting our Kaimyo-in community through Covid-19, winter will always turn to spring

15 October 2021

In the last couple of weeks, we have read and heard many updates on the Covid situation in Singapore. High case counts, increased testing, restrictions on social activities. We have also seen Kaimyo-in adopting measures per MCCY guidelines for the safety and well being of our believers, by urging both young (below 12) and elderly (above 60) believers to practice from home.

These adjustments have not been easy for us all, as Kaimyo-in has always been the place for us to gather and pray together towards the Joju Gohonzon. However, at this critical juncture in our fight against Covid-19, it is important that we all play our part and abide with the prevailing guidelines, so that we can overcome this situation together.

Activities Online

On the part of Kaimyo-in, we remain committed in supporting our believers in their journey of faith during this difficult time period. Although we can't meet physically, we can meet online and this is where we can pray together in earnest with our priesthood, for the pandemic situation to be stabilised, via our online chanting sessions and ceremonies for believers. To make logging on to such online sessions easier for our senior believers, we have recently introduced YouTube streaming, where it's an easy “one click” experience to join the live broadcast. Please get in touch with your Zone ICs, who will be most happy to share the YouTube link with you.

For new believers that have recently joined us, we have also released an online interactive recording of a slow Gongyo session, as led by our Chief Priest. We hope that this recording will help you familiarise with the words and phrases that we recite on a daily basis.

Another important aspect of our practice is the study of Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism. This is where our believers' Kaimyo Powerbank account comes in handy, as they can read past issues of Kaimyo magazine readily on the go.

Last but not least, we have also not forgotten our young ones. Every month, our children division organises a Children Activity for kids aged 3 - 12 years old. Please encourage the kids you know to attend this session, so that they can continue to grow with Kaimyo-in, even in this new normal.

Supporting One Another

To the rest of the young and abled amongst us, let us support not only fellow Kaimyo-in believers, but also our loved ones and others around us. For the elderly, let us ask after and care for their well being, and where possible, help with chores that they might otherwise have to head out to complete e.g. groceries. Also, help our senior believers with logging on to online platforms if they are facing difficulties.

Although we may be physically distanced, our hearts should not be. With mobile phones and other online communication tools widely available, we can stay connected with one another, and continue being a Zenchishiki to support each other through these tough times!
