National Day Performances at Marine Parade GRC and Braddell Heights CC

Strengthening our resolve to contribute to Singapore in meaningful and impactful ways

In celebration of Singapore's 59th birthday, NSBA proudly participated in heartland performances organised by the Marine Parade GRC and Braddell Heights Community Club, on August 3 and August 4 respectively.

The Ukulele and Hip Hop Dance teams of NSBA practiced hard for the performances, and put up a splendid show at the celebration events!

The National Day 2024 theme of "Together, As One United People" is not just a slogan, but a call to action. It emphasises the importance of unity among Singaporeans, with all citizens coming together to share the future and support one another. The theme encapsulates the essence of Singapore's success and resilience, reflecting the spirits of "inclusivity", "community" and "trust". This spirit has enabled us to thrive over the past 59 years.

When reflecting on the significance of Singapore's National Day, Chief Priest Reverend Shingaku Kato encouraged us as follows:

"As the National Day 2024 theme suggests, the unity among Singapore citizens is an invaluable endeavour. This resonates deeply with Nichiren Daishonin's teachings of "Unity" and the "Itai Doshin" spirit (many in body, one in mind). On this special National Day, let us as disciples of Nichiren Daishonin, strengthen our resolve to contribute to the nation of Singapore in meaningful and impactful ways. By fostering mutual support, we can collectively work towards the betterment of our society, and the realisation of Kosenrufu."

Reflections from NSBA performers

💭
"It was a memorable experience that deepened my appreciation for unity and teamwork. Performing alongside uncles and aunties was an honour, and I learned how each instrument, from ukulele to bass, along with the vocals, creates harmony. I was inspired by other performances and felt well-supported as one of the youngest participants. Reflecting, I am eager to share this spirit of unity and joy with more people worldwide."

"Personally, one of the highlights of the evening was when everyone sang National Day songs, which evoked a sense of nostalgia and belonging towards our country.

Witnessing this communal spirit reminded me of the spirit of Itai Doshin. It was incredibly heartwarming and significant how a country composed of people from diverse backgrounds can innately embody this spirit. However, beyond the applause and smiles, participating in such an event reminded me of the importance of appreciating the community we have built over the years.

It was not just a National Day celebration; it was a celebration of unity and culture, a celebration of us."
