Nichiren Daishonin states in “The Embankments of Faith”:

Whether or not we reproach another for his slander, it is difficult to prevent him from committing a grave sin. If we see or hear a person commit slander and make no attempt to stop him even though he could be saved, we betray our great gifts of sight and hearing and so commit
an act of utter mercilessness.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《阿佛房尼御前御返事》曰:

言或不言,皆重罪难免。
云脱罪,然见闻却置之不禁止,立即成破眼耳二德之大无慈悲也。

Gosho Passage – May 2012 拜读御书 2012年5月

Nichiren Daishonin states in “The Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra”: About the character “myo”, the Lotus Sutra says, “This sutra opens the door of expedient teachings and reveals the true aspect of reality.”

The Great Teacher Zhang-an comments on this as follows: “Myo means to reveal the depths of the secret storehouse.”

And the Great Teacher Miao-lo says of this, “To reveal means to open.”

Hence the character myo means to open. If there is a storehouse full of treasures but no key, then it cannot be opened, and if it cannot be opened, then the treasures cannot be seen.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《法华题目抄》曰:妙者,法华经云:“开方便门,示真实相”。
章安大师解释:“发秘密之奥藏, 称之为妙”。
妙乐大师说:“发者开也”。
因此, 妙即是开。世间积财之藏,无钥匙则难开之,不开则不见藏内之财

Gosho Passage – April 2012 拜读御书 2012年4月

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Wu-lung and I-lung”:

The benefit of all the other sutras is uncertain, because they teach that one must first make good causes and only then can one become a Buddha at some later time. The Lotus Sutra is completely different.  A hand which takes it up immediately attains enlightenment, and a mouth which chants it instantly enters Buddhahood, just as the moon is reflected in the water the moment it appears from behind the eastern mountains, or as a sound and its echo arise simultaneously.
宗祖日莲大圣人“上野尼御前御返事”曰:

一切经之功德乃说先作善根而后成佛。是故不定也。所谓法华经乃以手取,其手即成佛,以口唱,其口即成佛也。譬如天月出於东之山头,其时水中即浮其影,如音与声响之同时也。

Gosho Passage – March 2012 拜读御书 2012年3月

Nichiren Daishonin states in “The Essence of the Yakuo Chapter”: The Kegon and the other various sutras are like stars in this dark night, while the Lotus Sutra is like the moon in this night. For those who have faith in the Lotus Sutra but whose faith is not deep, it is as though a half moon were illuminating that dark night. But for those who have profound faith, it is as though a full moon were illuminating the night.

宗祖日莲大圣人于“药王品得意抄”曰: 华严经等之一切经,如闇夜之星,法华经如闇夜之月。虽信法华经,然不深信者,如半月之照闇夜。若深信者,如满月之照闇夜。

Gosho Passage – February 拜读御书 2012年2月

Nichiren Daishonin states in the “Hell and Buddhahood” : Neither the pure land nor hell exists outside ourselves; both lie within our own hearts. Awakened to this truth, one is called a Buddha; deluded about it, he is a common mortal. The Lotus Sutra awakens us to this reality, and one who embraces the Lotus Sutra will find that hell is itself the enlightened land.

宗祖日莲大圣人于“上野殿后家尼御返事”曰: 夫云净土或地狱皆不存于外,只在我等之胸中。悟此者云佛,迷于此者云凡夫。悟此者乃法华经也。若然,奉持法华经者,即悟地狱即寂光。

Gosho Passage – January 2012 拜读御书 2012年1月

Nichiren Daishonin states in the “New Year Gosho” :
New Year’s Day marks the first day, the first month, the beginning of the year and the start of spring.
A person who celebrates this day will gain virtue and be loved by all, just as the moon becomes full gradually, moving from west to east, and the sun shines more brightly travelling from east to west.

宗(zōng)祖(zǔ)日(rì)莲(lián)大(dà)圣(shèng)人(rén)于(yú)“十(shí)字(zì)御(yù)书(shū)”曰(yuē):
正(zhēng)月(yuè)一(yī)日(rì),乃(nǎi)日(rì)之(zhī)初(chū)、月(yuè)之(zhī)始(shǐ)、年(nián)之(zhī)初(chū)、春(chūn)之(zhī)始(shǐ)。善(shàn)用(yòng)此(cǐ)者(zhě),如(rú)月(yuè)自(zì)西(xī)向(xiàng)东(dōng)而(ér)盈(yíng),日(rì)由(yóu)东(dōng)朝(cháo)西(xī)而(ér)明(míng),德(dé)更(gèng)胜(shèng),亦(yì)为(wéi)人(rén)所(suǒ)爱(ài)也(yě)。

Gosho Passage – December 2011

Nichiren Daishonin states in the “Letter to Shiiji Shiro” (Ship to Cross the Sea of Suffering): You must realize that it is because of a deep karmic relationship from the past that you can teach others even a sentence or phrase of the Lotus Sutra.

A passage from the Hosshi chapter reads, “If there is someone, whether man or women, who secretly teaches to one person even a single phrase of the Lotus Sutra, let it be known that he is the envoy of the Buddha” This means that anyone who teaches others even a single phrase of the Lotus Sutra is clearly the Buddha’s envoy, whether he be priest or nun, lay man or woman.

 

宗祖日莲大圣人于“椎地四郎殿御书”曰:虽一问一句亦为他人言法华之法门者,应知乃过去宿缘甚深也。(中略)法师品曰:“若是善男子,善女人,乃至则如来使,僧,尼,女,虽一句亦为人言者,可见乃如来之使也”。
