Nichiren Daishonin states in “Reply to Sairen-bo”:

The votaries of the Lotus Sutra must neither discard their faith nor dishonestly live their lives. If they devote their lives completely to the Lotus Sutra and practice precisely as stated in the golden words of the Buddha, they will, without fail, enjoy a long and healthy life, unaffected by misfortunes and illnesses. They will achieve the ultimate supreme effect not only in their future lifetimes but also in their current lives. Moreover, they will be able to attain the great aspiration of kosen-rufu.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《最莲房御返事》曰:

法华经行者若信心无退转,身无诈亲,其身一切委由法华经,如金言修行,后生自不待言,今生亦息灾延命得胜妙之大果报,亦必成就广宣流布之大愿也。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Reply to Shijo Kingo
(Shijo kingo dono-gohenji)”:

The Lotus Sutra states: “If, after my passing, there are good men and good women, and one among them secretly preaches the entire Lotus Sutra or a phrase of it to even one other person, then you should know that this individual, indeed, is an envoy of the Tathagata. As the Tathagata’s envoy, he carries out compassionate action in his stead.” A person who recites even a character or a phrase of the Lotus Sutra and also preaches it to others is an envoy of Lord Shakyamuni.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《四条金吾殿御返事》曰:

法华经云“若是善男子 善女人 我灭度后 能窃为一人说法华经 乃至一句 当知是人 则如来使 如来所遣 行如来事”等云云。一字一句唱法华经,又向人说,即为教主释尊之使也。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Reply to Hyo’e-sakan (Hyo’e sakan dono-gohenji)”:

Changes certainly occur when the high tide yields to low tide, when the moon rises and sets, when summer gives way to autumn, or winter turns to spring. The same is true when a common mortal attains Buddhahood. At a critical moment, he definitely will encounter the three obstacles and four devils. The wise will rejoice, while the foolish will retreat.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《兵卫志殿御返事》曰:

潮退潮满、月出月没,夏与秋、冬与春,必有相违之事。凡夫之成佛亦如是,必出现三障四魔之障,贤者悦,愚者退,此也。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “On the Buddha’s Behavior (Shuju onfurumai-gosho)”:

In the more than two thousand two hundred and twenty years since the Buddha’s passing, not even the likes of Mahakashyapa, Ananda, Ashvaghosha, Nagarjuna, Nanyue, Tiantai, Miaole, and Dengyo have propagated Myoho-Renge-Kyo. The five characters of Myoho-Renge-Kyo are the core of the Lotus Sutra and the origin of all Buddhas throughout the entire world. Upon seeing the signs that these five characters now must be propagated, I, Nichiren have set the precedent, today, at the beginning of the Latter Day of the Law. My disciples, you must follow one after another and become greater than Mahakashyapa or Ananda and, moreover, surpass even the Great Teacher Tiantai or Dengyo.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《种种御振舞御书》曰:

佛灭后二千二百二十余年间,迦叶、阿难等,马鸣、龙树等,南岳、天台等,妙乐、传教等,犹未弘之法华经肝心,诸佛眼目之妙法莲华经五字,于末法之始,弘扬于一阎浮提之瑞相,日莲为先驱也。和党二阵三阵相继,犹胜迦叶、阿难,亦越天台、传教。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “On the Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life and Death”:

All disciples and believers of Nichiren should chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo with the spirit of many in body, one in mind, overcoming all differences among themselves, [to become united with the heart of the Buddha], just like fish being inseparable from the water in which they swim. This is called the heritage of the ultimate Law of life and death. This is also what Nichiren is trying to propagate now in the Latter Day of the Law. When you are so united, even the great aspiration for kosen-rufu can be fulfilled without fail. However, if there are any among Nichiren’s disciples who are many in body, many in mind, they are like subjects in a castle who destroy the fortress from within.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《生死一大事血脉抄》曰:

总之,日莲之弟子檀那等,无自他彼此之心,成水鱼之思,异体同心奉唱南无妙法莲华经,云生死一大事之血脉也。然今日莲所弘通之究竟,此也。若然,广宣流布之大愿亦可成欤。反之,日莲之弟子中若有异体异心者,例如城中之人破其城。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Reply to the Wife of Ueno (Ueno ama gozen-gohenji)”:

The Lotus Sutra teaches that the hands used to hold it immediately will enter Buddhahood, and the mouth that chants the Daimoku instantly will become Buddha. This is similar to the moon’s reflection on the surface of the water as it rises above the eastern mountains, or a sound and its resonance occurring simultaneously. The sutra states, “Among those who hear this Law, there is not one who shall not attain enlightenment.” This passage means that if there are a hundred or even a thousand people who embrace this sutra, all will become Buddhas without exception.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《上野尼御前御返事》曰:

云法华经者,若以手取,其手即成佛,若以口唱,其口即佛也。譬如天月出于东之山头,其时水中即浮其影,如音与声响之同时也。故经云“若有闻法者,无一不成佛”云云。文之心乃谓持此经之人,百人则百人,千人则千人,一人不漏皆成佛之文也。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Rissho ankoku-ron”:

If you truly desire your own peace and security, should you not first pray for peace of the entire nation? Above all, everyone living in this world fears what is to come after death. In fear of this, people unknowingly take faith in erroneous teachings or venerate slanderous religions. Their inability to differentiate right from wrong is disgraceful. How pitiful it is that they believe they are dedicating themselves to correct Buddhism! If people were inclined to take faith, why would they heedlessly follow erroneous doctrines?

宗祖日莲大圣人于《立正安国》曰:

汝若思得一身之安泰,须先祈四表之安宁。就中,人之在世,皆畏来世。是以或信邪教,或贵谤法。虽恶各迷是非取舍,亦哀犹思皈依佛法。同时信心之力,何以妄宗邪义之词哉?

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Opening of the Eyes”:

Although I, Nichiren, and my disciples may face various difficulties, we will naturally reach the world of Buddhahood, as long as we do not harbor doubts. Do not doubt that the heavens will protect you. Do not be discouraged because your life is not easy and secure in this lifetime. Though I have taught this to my disciples day and night, many of them, raising doubts, abandon their faith. Those with weak faith always forget what they have promised when the crucial moment comes.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《开目抄》曰:

我及我弟子,虽有诸难,若无疑心,自然得至佛界。勿疑天无加护,莫叹现世不安稳,虽朝夕教我弟子,皆生疑弃舍。愚人之习,约定之事,忘于关键之时。

Nichiren Daishonin states in “Reply to Matsuno”:

There are many baby fish, but only a few mature to become full-grown fish. Although the mango tree blooms proliferously, few of its flowers turn into fruit. The same is true for humans. There are many who resolve to attain enlightenment, but only a few refrain from slackening in their practice and manage to achieve the true way. The aspiration of common mortals to attain enlightenment is often hampered by evil karmic influences and is easily affected by various conditions and circumstances. There are many heavily armoured warriors, but only a few among them are fearless when they go into battle.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《松野殿御返事》曰:
魚之子虽多,成鱼者少。
菴罗树之花虽多,结果者少。
人亦复如斯。
发菩提心者虽多,不退而入实道者少。
一切凡夫之菩提心,多受恶缘欺诳,遇事易变也。
如着铠之兵虽多,临战而不惧者稀矣。

Gosho Passage July 2019 / 2019 年 7月御书文段

Nichiren Daishonin states in “On the Object of Worship Manifesting the True Buddha’s Entity and his Enlightenment, Originating in the Fifth Five-hundred Year Period after the Buddha’s Passing”:

The Great Teacher Tiantai said:
“When we perceive the intensity of the rain, we can fathom the gigantic size of the dragon causing it, and when we view the flourishing blossoms of the lotus plants, we can gauge the depth of the pond in which they grow.”

The Great Teacher Miaole stated:
“Wise men know the essential source, just as snakes are inherently aware of their own ways.”

When the heavens are clear, the ground is distinctly visible, and those who know the Lotus Sutra can master the essence of worldly affairs. Out of great compassion for those who were unaware of the doctrine of ichinen sanzen (three-thousand realms in a single life-moment), the Buddha wrapped this gem within the five characters and used it to decorate the necks of those in the Latter Day who do not possess the seed of Buddhahood.

宗祖日莲大圣人于《观心本尊抄》曰:
天台云「见雨猛知龙大,见花盛知池深」等云云。
妙乐云「智人知起,蛇自识蛇」等云云。
天晴则地明,识法华者可得世法矣。为不识一念三千
者,佛起大慈悲,将此珠裹于五字之内,悬于末代幼
稚之颈矣。
